5,000 m² for planning and administration – in record time
As part of a funding project, the city of Leipzig is testing the use of automated modeling processes – and demonstrates with a pilot project how quickly a usable BIM model can be created in existing structures today.

City of Leipzig
The city of Leipzig is focusing on digital twins within the framework of funding projects and is examining the use of Scan2BIM for urban planning and administrative processes.
Building Type
Mixed complex of old and new construction
Model Delivery
48 hours
Model Area
5,000 m²
Challenge
For the pilot project, a building complex with a historic listed old building, a new extension, and a hall with increased room heights was selected. The architectural diversity posed high demands on the model: complex roof shapes, different room heights, incomplete existing documents, and many transitions between old and new building sections. The goal was a LOD-200 model for integration into the digital city model of Leipzig.
Solution
Points2BIM relied on a two-stage process: First, an AI analyzed the point cloud and automatically generated an accurate BIM model with walls, windows, doors, ceilings, and room structures. Subsequently, BIM experts reviewed the result for consistency and made targeted corrections if needed. Thus, a high-quality model was created in the shortest time – completely without manual modeling effort.
Result
The usable BIM model (approximately 5,000 m²) was available after just 48 hours. The output in Revit and IFC format enabled direct further processing – for area analyses, floor plan derivations, or urban planning processes. The automated approach saved more than 80% time compared to traditional modeling.
We were surprised at what is already possible with AI in modeling today. Particularly the speed was convincing.
