Renovation at existing structures to new building standards
For the renovation of a historical villa in Leipzig, a digital model based on point clouds was created with Points2BIM – quickly, reliably, and efficiently. Together with the partner Wuttke Ingenieure, the basic model was subsequently upgraded to LOD 300 in just a few days.

Mann & Schott Architects
Mann & Schott Architects from Leipzig have been planning individual, sustainable residential construction projects since 2003
Area
approximately 5,000 m²
Building Type
Old building with two attached new buildings
Processing Time
48 hours
Challenge
The precise digital capture of a complex building geometry was essential for project planning – especially considering different construction phases and incomplete plans. The goal was to quickly create a reliable basis for further planning.
Solution
The building was captured using various scanning methods – including stationary and mobile systems as well as drone recordings. Points2BIM combined the scans into a total point cloud and created a precise BIM model (LOD 200) from it in just 48 hours.
Result
The rapid availability of the digital building model enabled smooth coordination among all participants. Through the automatic detection of architectural elements, plan deviations could be identified early and corrections initiated.
The detailed BIM model allows us to achieve a planning quality and depth in existing structures like in new construction! Only through the model were we able to develop solutions for escape routes, accurate quantity determination, and planning of the floor plans.
